MQ-2 Gas and Smoke Analog Sensor

SKU: SEP-12

The MQ-2 gas sensor uses tin oxide (SnO2) as its sensitive material, which has low conductivity in clean air. When combustible gases are present in the environment, the sensor’s conductivity increases in proportion to the concentration of the gases.

A simple circuit is used to convert the changes in conductivity into an output signal that corresponds to the gas concentration.

The MQ-2 sensor is highly sensitive to gases such as methane, propane, hydrogen, and natural gas, as well as other flammable vapors. It is capable of detecting a wide range of combustible gases and is an affordable solution for various applications.

This analog output sensor can measure the changes in the concentrations of gases such as H2, LPG, CH4, CO, alcohol, smoke, and propane.

The MQ-2 gas sensor is designed with a high-quality dual-panel construction, ensuring both durability and reliable performance. It features both digital (DO) and analog (AO) outputs, allowing for easy integration into various systems. The sensor is highly sensitive to a wide range of gases, including natural gas, city gas, smoke, and other combustible gases such as methane, propane, hydrogen, and alcohol.

The sensor works by detecting changes in the concentration of gases, which affect its conductivity. The digital output provides a low-level signal (0V) when gas is detected, while the analog output voltage increases with higher gas concentrations. After powering on, the sensor requires about 20 seconds to warm up before it stabilizes and starts providing reliable readings. This warm-up time is a normal characteristic due to the internal heating wire.

The MQ-2 sensor is designed with four screw holes, making it easy to mount and position in different setups. Its stable and long-lasting performance, combined with rapid response and recovery characteristics, ensures consistent gas detection for continuous monitoring applications.

Features:

  • Dual Output Signals:
    • Digital Output (DO): TTL digital signal (0.1V for low, 5V for high), suitable for microcontroller or relay module connections.
    • Analog Output (AO): Output voltage range from 0.1V to 0.3V (with pollution levels) and up to 4V at maximum gas concentration.
  • High Sensitivity: Sensitive to gases such as natural gas, smoke, methane, propane, hydrogen, and alcohol.
  • Easy Installation: Four screw holes for simple mounting and positioning.
  • Durable and Reliable: Offers long life and stable performance with rapid response to gas concentration changes.
  • Power Requirements:
    • Input Voltage: DC 5V
    • Power Consumption: 150mA
